Government Made $14 Billion in Overpayments to Unemployed

Unemployment welfare is rapidly becoming the largest entitlement behind the big three expenditures for the federal government.  We’ve been spending upwards of $150 billion per year on UI benefits since Obama took office, far more than what is collected from the payroll taxes that supposedly purvey this program.  Now this:

Overpayments are a rampant problem in the unemployment insurance system. The federal government and states overpaid an estimated $14 billion in benefits in fiscal 2011, or roughly 11% of all the jobless benefits paid out, according to reports from the U.S. Labor Department.
