Not only is this president akin to an arsonist who comes onto the scene of the border crisis as the firefighter, he is actually standing there with a blow torch promising to set our sovereignty ablaze like never before. While we are suffering the consequences of Obama’s open immigration invitation to the world, he is threatening to grant further amnesty to as many as 5 million illegal immigrants.
To be clear, administrative amnesty is a flagrant violation of federal law (8 U.S.C. § 1225), which requires ICE to place aliens who are not “clearly and beyond a doubt entitled to be admitted” to the United States into removal proceedings. Moreover, any effort to grant illegals work permits is incontrovertibly in violation of Section 274A of the Immigration and Nationality Act:
(a) Making employment of unauthorized aliens unlawful
(1) In general
It is unlawful for a person or other entity—
(A) to hire, or to recruit or refer for a fee, for employment in the United States an alien knowing the alien is an unauthorized alien (as defined in subsection (h)(3) of this section) with respect to such employment, or
(i) to hire for employment in the United States an individual without complying with the requirements of subsection (b) of this section…
Yet, amazingly, despite this unprecedented imperial activity, Speaker John Boehner omitted immigration as an example of Obama violating separation of powers in his op-ed defending his lawsuit against the President.
One would expect Republicans to use their first leverage point to put an immediate end to this lawlessness, especially while Obama is openly promising to double down on administrative amnesty. Yet, not only are Republicans refusing to use current appropriations to rein in this imperialism, they plan to give him new funding without first demanding that he swear off further amnesties.
Folks, this is not just about Republicans as a powerless minority party. With control of the House, they can easily leverage all funding against administrative amnesty. They certainly have the power to block new funding. Yet they are silent.
Does anyone really think this behavior will change when Republican take back the Senate?

Democrats have a penchant for implementing bad policies and then responding to the deleterious consequences by throwing money at the problem. The Senate supplemental appropriations bill, sponsored by Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D-MD), allocates an additional $2.7 billion to deal with the border crisis, yet declines to deal with the flawed policies that have engendered this new wave of illegal immigration in the first place. Ironically, in order to grease the skids of the bill, Democrats have attached an extraneous rider sending $225 million to help pay for Israel’s Iron Dome System, which is yet another example of throwing money at a policy problem they helped create.
What Israel needs most now is the ability to defeat the Hamas terrorists and preserve its sovereignty – unencumbered by drive-by micromanagement from the White House. No country can survive economically if its entire population has to huddle in bomb shelters waiting for the next rocket to drop.
Unfortunately, not only has President Obama declined to side with our best ally, he has demanded an immediate cessation of Israel’s self-defense operation even as the rockets continue to fall. This week, Obama has taken his dyslexic moral relativism to a new level by rewarding Hamas for their rocket attacks near Israel’s only international airport by banning all flights to Tel Aviv. There is nothing more inimical to a county’s economic vitality than shutting down its airport, and it appears that Hamas has now achieved their desired result. They are declaring victory in light of Obama and other world leaders issuing bans on travel to Israel.
So after telling Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to suspend his effort to destroy Hamas rocket launchers, Obama now has the impertinence to complain about the lack of security at Ben Gurion airport. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), rightfully asked, “If the FAA’s decision was based on airline safety, why was Israel singled out, when flights are still permitted into Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Yemen?”
With whom does this president’s sympathies lie? As Cruz noted, “The facts suggest that President Obama has just used a federal regulatory agency to launch an economic boycott on Israel, in order to try to force our ally to comply with his foreign-policy demands.”
Sadly, instead of holding their party leader accountable for abrogating the long-standing relationship with Israel and endangering their economic and national security, Democrats are distracting attention with legislative logrolling. They are tossing in extra funding for Israel’s defense in order to sweeten the pot for a misguided border bill, while simultaneously evincing a pro-Israel image. Democrats, who are always sensitive to polling, must be keenly aware of the fact that Americans strongly support Israel’s right to self-defense and self-determination.
But what good is it to send more money to Israel only to use those funds to undercut their security and instigate a de facto economic boycott? Much like the crisis on our southern border, sending money to alleviate a problem while doubling down on the policies that cause or exacerbate the crisis is counterintuitive.
It’s unfortunate that Democrats lack the moxie to confront the leader of their party over his egregious actions against Israel – a sphere of policy for which they claim bipartisan support. For all the complaints about conservatives and the Tea Party, everyone should appreciate the fact that the party faithful are willing to hold their leadership accountable for violating its principles. To the extent that Democrat rank-and-file really oppose terrorism and support Israel, they should do the same. Adding funding for Israel’s security to an inappropriate legislative vehicle will not conceal their indifference toward Obama’s dangerous foreign policy.
Ultimately, it is quite ironic that after advocating open borders back home, Obama has now moved onto the next agenda item – ensuring that Israel lacks secure borders as well. Maybe the Democrats are onto something by juxtaposing these two disparate policies after all.

We already know that most GOP consultants have no core beliefs or desire to push conservative policies. But one would expect they would at least accurately analyze the polling data on the issues. After all, they live and die by polls.
For years, we have argued that Republicans should go on offense with the issue of immigration and run ads against Democrats for supporting his lawlessness and violation of our sovereignty. Yet, the GOP consultants have all drunk the kool-aid and are pushing amnesty. Now Gallup is out with a poll completely demolishing the electoral argument behind the open borders Republicans.
According to Gallup, Americans disapprove of Obama’s handling of immigration by 65% to 31%. Approval among independents has dropped to just 25%!
This tracks very closely to a recent CNN poll which showed that the public disapproves of the President’s handling of immigration by 61-35%. He is underwater with every demographic, including Independents (28-67%).
Imagine how the polls would look if we actually had an opposition party forcefully making the case for America-first policies that benefit American taxpayers and legal immigrants while preserving our sovereignty.

What happens when the opposition party is so committed to implementing amnesty – to the extent that they are willing to destroy their own base? The President will take the prerogative to implement amnesty on his own without fear of reprisal.
I never thought we’d live to see the day when the rule of law is suspended by administrative fiat to the point that Democrats openly tout their illegal plans:
Schumer, one of the leaders of the Senate’s Gang of Eight that pushed through a comprehensive immigration package last year, said it is clear where the issue of immigration reform is heading.
“They can either help pass comprehensive reform, which will greatly reduce the flow of illegal immigrants, grow our economy by bringing in needed workers in high-tech and agriculture areas, and provide a hard-earned path to eventual citizenship for the 11 million in the shadows,” he said in a Facebook post, “or they can sit idly by and watch the President greatly curtail deportations while 11 million continue to live in limbo here in America.”
Indeed, Obama has already ordered a review of deportations and has transferred DHS funding from a border fence to increased salaries for bureaucrats. This comes on the heels of the President’s pledge that Obamacare sign-ups will not be used to track down illegals for deportations.
What’s even more appalling than Democrats openly bragging about flaunting the law and vitiating our sovereignty is the complete callous disregard by Republicans.
What if citizens would stop paying taxes, or refuse to participate in Social Security? If the executive branch can countermand a law of Congress, why can’t the voters – those who grant Congress its authority – do the same?
The irony is that we are all compelled to obey laws that we don’t like, even those of dubious constitutional authority. Yet, the President is able to disobey one of the few core functions of the federal government while granting handouts to those who come and stay here illegally!
Senator Sessions has compiled a full list of actions this president has taken to violate laws passed by Congress and erase our borders while endangering our national security. Yet, instead of spending millions on ads educating the public about Obama’s malevolent and imperial actions, they are actually spending millions promoting Obama’s open borders agenda in an appallingly deceptive manner. Groups like FWD, run by McConnell allies, are running ads attacking House Republicans for not supporting amnesty.
Parting question: If Obama feels he can act unilaterally to alter America even before the midterm elections, what will stop him from pushing the envelope after November, when he officially becomes a lame duck?

The big story for conservatives is not the President’s State of the Union Address. It is the broken state of the Republican Party – the party that is supposed to serve as a bulwark against the poisonous ideas propagated in that speech.
It certainly is egregious that we have a president who is brazenly implementing wage controls without congressional approval. It is reprehensible that he speaks of inequality while promulgating regulations that throw people off their healthcare and destroy jobs in Appalachia.
But it is even more reprehensible that we have an opposition party that is hell-bent on rubber stamping Obama’s agenda, while engaging in a civil war with the party base that desires a bold contrast.
Obama is requesting endless debt ceiling increases. Mitch McConnell and John Boehner have made it clear they agree with his fallacious premise about default and plan to raise it, yet somehow extract concessions.
Obama has doubled down on Obamacare. Yet GOP leaders are owned by lobbyists who have made it clear they will never repeal the law.
Obama has shredded the Constitution and used illegal administrative power to advance legislation that never passed Congress. The GOP leadership has made it clear they will never use the power of the purse vested in the House to clamp down on those illegal maneuvers.
Obama talks about the endless need to intervene in the private economy, yet Republicans are prepared to pass a $956 billion Farm Bill, which locks in the President’s baseline for food stamp spending and entrenches the federal government into every aspect of Agriculture.
Obama speaks of the need to make “investments” in the nation, yet Republicans respond by passing a $1.1 trillion omnibus bill.
Obama panders to radical socially liberal interests in order to remake our society, and Republicans are silent on “social issues.”
And finally, Obama speaks passionately about our obligation to open our citizenship and welfare state to illegal immigrants and the rest of the world without limits, yet Republicans respond…..by offering the same! Their alacrity to open our doors and pocketbooks to illegals has already empowered the drug cartels to smuggle in more potential beneficiaries and future Democrat voters.
On Politico’s front page you will find an article titled “Boehner Unchained,” which details the Speaker’s new mission to join with Obama and fight conservatives. You will also find an article titled “GOP Ready to Surrender on Debt Ceiling.” Now couple that with tomorrow’s vote on the Farm Bill, and we have a full-blown crisis within the party.
Luckily, some members are starting to get the message that the establishment doesn’t share our values. When the House passed its version of the farm bill last year divorced from food stamp spending, we warned that they would reinsert it back into the bill in conference. Not only did they remarry agriculture with food stamps, the conference committee gave Democrats almost everything they wanted among the disputed items with House Republicans. There are even some environmental conservation regulations that liberals never thought they’d win in the deal. Members are finally starting to understand that we will always get rolled during private negotiations.
And the reason is quite simple. GOP leaders don’t share our values. To the extent they humor us with some shiny objects it is designed to get the bills to conference so they can inject their real priorities into the final agreement. Now some House conservatives are getting a taste of what a potential immigration conference committee would look like.
We all know that this president is dangerous. We need to defeat him and his party. But if we focus exclusively on Obama and the priorities he laid out tonight and ignore the fire within the Republican Party, we are destined to play into his hands.
But the good news is that reinforcements are on the way. Senator Mike Lee showed us last night that there is still hope within the Republican Party and it rests with competitive primaries. After a vanilla pudding response to the State of the Union offered by GOP Conference Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers – one which was full of platitudes and devoid of policy substance – Mike Lee laid out the superlative response from the Tea Party.
Mike Lee laid out our first principles in plain language but also weaved them together into specific policy solutions. He explained exactly how free markets and limited government help the very people for whom Obama claims to protect. He argued our views from a position of strength and went on offense against Obama’s class warfare instead of the banal GOP response of “don’t hate us; we’re sweet people too.” Lee unambiguously called for an end to corporate welfare. Not surprisingly, he noted that “to be fair, President Obama and his party did not create all of these problems. The Republican Establishment in Washington can be just as out-of-touch as the Democratic Establishment.”
Lee went on to take Obama’s inequality meme and throw it back at him like a cruise missile. He noted that inequality in rural communities exists from government controlling most of the land out west. He hit Obama directly on administrative fiat and NSA spying. He went on to tie in government-sponsored inequality to government messing with life and marriage (not running away from so-called social issues.) Finally, he offered numerous policy solutions on infrastructure, education, energy, and healthcare.
There are more Mike Lees where he came from, but we will only find them in competitive primaries. It’s time to get to work and rebuild the Republican Party, and by extension, this great Republic.

Earlier today, the ever melodramatic president suggested that it is unprecedented for an opposing party in Congress to deny a request for a clean debt ceiling increase. He asserted that “nobody in the past has ever seriously threatened to breach the debt ceiling until the last two years. and this is the credit worthiness of the united states we’re talking about.”
Actually, as Sean Davis noted, there have been a number of epic budget battles over the debt ceiling dating back to President Eisenhower. Many of them resulted in some serious concessions by the sitting president. But what is more important is Obama’s amnesia from his own days in the Senate.
The President had few accomplishments in his brief time in the Senate, but one of his most public moments was when he spoke out against President Bush’s request to raise the debt ceiling from $8.184 trillion to $8.965 trillion. He sounded like a tea partier. Here are some of the highlights:
“It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our government’s reckless fiscal policies. Over the past five years, our federal debt has increased by $3.5 trillion to $8.6 trillion. That is ‘‘trillion’’ with a ‘‘T.’’ That is money that we have borrowed from the Social Security trust fund, borrowed from China and Japan, borrowed from American taxpayers.” […]
“Our debt also matters internationally. My friend, the ranking member of the Senate Budget Committee, likes to remind us that it took 42 presidents 224 years to run up only $1 trillion of foreign-held debt. This administration did more than that in just five years.”[…]
“Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that ‘the buck stops here.’ Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better. I therefore intend to oppose the effort to increase America’s debt limit.”
Ultimately, Obama not only “threatened to breach” the debt ceiling, he voted against the increase.
Let’s put this in perspective. Obama opposed a debt limit increase from $8.2 to roughly $9 trillion because President Bush increased the debt by $3.5 trillion in 5 years. Well, President Obama increased the debt from $10.6 trillion to $16.7 trillion in less than five years. If increasing the debt from $8.2 trillion “weakens us domestically and internationally,” increasing it from $16.7 trillion would be cataclysmic.

What a difference a sense of conviction and the presence of a Republican backbone brings to a debate in Washington. Democrats are beginning to slowly grovel back to the negotiation table, barely able to contain their show of bravado. We are now having a national discussion about Obamacare, something that would have never happened had we not chosen to fight on the budget bill.
As we conclude day two of the partial government shutdown, we’ve seen that the Obama administration is forced to employ insidious tactics to ensure that people will feel the effects of the shutdown, and that their willing accomplices in the media will broadcast the pain. Senator Harry Reid and President Barack Obama are refusing to support targeted funding bills for veterans, the NIH, and national parks unless we all agree to fund every last penny of Obamacare, even as the law is universally regarded as ‘not ready for prime time.’ They are placing the priorities of their special interests ahead of the commitments to our veterans.
To make matters worse, the administration has sent out government workers to actively shut down outdoor memorials, such as the World II Memorial in Washington. The administration erected barriers to block veterans from merely walking through their own memorial. Hence, Obama is creating “essential workers” for the purpose of actively shutting down something that doesn’t need to be shutdown. We are seeing government websites going dark, even though a lapse in funding would merely engender a suspension in updating the website, not a closure.
The Harry and Barry Shutdown show is political theater at its worst, but is nothing new. They employed the same tactic early this year when the sequester cuts took effect. Much to the chagrin of the left, nobody noticed when the tree of excess government spending fell in the forest. So Obama took it upon himself to release thousands of criminal illegal aliens onto the streets in order to contrive a crisis and link it to the modest spending cuts.
Something funny occurs when we actually stand and fight. Democrats are put on defense, and they begin to make mistakes. We begin shifting the polls, public perception, and even the media cycle. This shift became apparent today when a flummoxed Harry Reid became unhinged with a CNN reporter, suggesting that he would not want to help one kid with cancer and pass an NIH funding bill. They are completely on the run. Now the narrative is all about the Democrats refusing to fund vital services for the purpose of preserving every penny of Obamacare. Even President Bill Clinton agreed to pass some small funding bills for essential services during the 1995 standoff.
We are witnessing more House Republicans waking up to another day of the shutdown with the realization that the entire narrative of Republicans losing this battle is complete bunk. Even the Republican National Committee is jumping in to this battle, something we would never have expected just a few weeks ago.
Imagine where we would be in this fight if we didn’t have the breakdown of leadership in the Senate led by Senator Mitch McConnell and Senator John Cornyn? One senator after another – from Pat Toomey and Jeff Flake to Tom Coburn and John McCain – are openly siding with Harry Reid, publicly cosigning us to defeat, or undermining our position. Senators Harry Reid and Dick Durbin are reading off the names of the dissenters on the Senate floor. Imagine if the Senate Republicans would join the House in fighting the Harry and Barry Obamacare shutdown show?

In August 2011, Obama hatched a deal to grant himself a free $2.1 trillion increase in debt, which would take him past the 2012 elections, thereby sparing him the embarrassment of another debt limit request during the campaign season. He knew that such a request was so bold it needed to be ensconced in a deal that would give voters the impression he was committed to cutting spending. To that end, the Budget Control Act called for the creation of a super committee to identify $1.2 trillion in baseline cuts and tax increases. Given that the committee would be evenly split between Republicans and Democrats, Obama knew that this would trigger the sequestration. And that is exactly what he wanted.
Nobody could accuse Republicans of designing the sequester. Only a leftist like Obama would ensure that the one mechanism to actually cut spending would disproportionately cut defense. For example, this year’s sequester will cut $42.7 billion from defense, $28.7 billion from non-defense discretionary spending, and $14 billion from mandatory spending, most notably, to healthcare providers. Obama figured that Republicans would be so scared of the defense sequester that they would come to him begging for a reprieve. That way Obama would be saved from cutting one penny of spending from any account, and could possibly leverage more tax increases in exchange for letting them off easy with defense spending cuts.
A free $2.1 debt limit increase in exchange for nothing but defense cuts and possible leverage to raise taxes…..sounds like a nice plan, doesn’t it?
In 2011, Republicans went along with this insane plan. As a result, we burned through the $2.1 trillion in new debt in just 17 months. We actually increased spending during that time period. Now the time to pay the infinitesimal price of spending cuts has come due. Conservatives decided to draw a line in the sand and not fall into Obama’s trap. While we don’t like the fact that 50% of the cuts will come from the most important part of the budget, which only represents 20% of total outlays, we will not pass up an opportunity to cut non-defense discretionary spending; nor will we be suckered into more tax hikes.

As the excerpts of Obama’s speech were released, I wrote up a few comments in response to his deceptions. Then when the full text became available, I realized that I would need 25 pages to respond to the speech. Every word was a lie or a deception. From listening to the speech you would think that he just became president, that all his ideas were never tried before, and that there is no unemployment problem. He has grown government to record heights, yet we are living in the longest period of economic stagnation. So he is proposing even more government, like cap and trade style regulations that will cripple job creation and raise the cost of all vital goods and services. This man lives in an alternative universe.
Here are just a few points:
“Let me repeat – nothing I’m proposing tonight should increase our deficit by a single dime. It’s not a bigger government we need, but a smarter government that sets priorities and invests in broad-based growth.”
Wow – just wow. There have been numerous lies disseminated from that podium over the year by both Republican and Democrat presidents. But this? You might be a liberal who agrees with his proposals; who believes that throwing more money at failed programs will create prosperity. However, what sane individual believes that they will not add a dime to the deficit? This is coming from a man who has increased the debt by $5.8 trillion in just his first term, more than any other president from George Washington through Bill Clinton combined.
Monday, January 21st, 2013 and is filed under Blog, News
Well, Obama’s first term has come to an end, and now is the time to add up the tab. I was going to offer a roundup of Obama’s empire of debt, but it looks like Terrence Jeffrey of CNS News has already done so:
During Barack Obama’s first term as president of the United States, the debt of the federal government increased by $5.8 trillion, which exceeds the combined debt accumulated under all presidents from George Washington through Bill Clinton.
The new federal debt accumulated in Obama’s first term equaled approximately $50,521 for each of household in the country.
On Jan. 20, 2009, when Obama was first inaugurated, the total debt of the federal government was $10,626,877,048,913.08, according to the U.S. Treasury. As of the close of business on Jan. 17, the last day reported by the Treasury before Obama’s second inauguration, the total debt of the federal government was $16,432,631,489,854.70.
Thus, from Obama’s first inauguration to his second, the federal government’s debt grew by $5,805,754,440,941.62.
I would add that $5.26 trillion of the debt increase came from the public share of the debt, not the share we owe ourselves. In other words, 91% of the debt increase under Obama is owned by foreign entities. That’s some accomplishment for four years. One can only wonder what the next four years will portend.
