Madison Project Airs Radio Ad in Support of Alex Mooney in WV-2

Monday, May 5th, 2014 and is filed under Blog, Elections, Press

Fort Worth, TX –The Madison Project PAC released a new, 60-second radio ad encouraging Republicans in West Virginia to vote for proven-conservative Alex Mooney in the May 13th Republican primary election for the U.S. House Second Congressional District:

To listen to the ad click here.

“Alex Mooney is one of those rare candidates who is able to unite all of the factions of the conservative movement,” said Daniel Horowitz of the Madison Project.  “He has coalesced the support of fiscal, social, and national defense conservatives.  And for good reason.  While most candidates talk a good game during the primaries, Mooney has fought for social and fiscal conservatives for years and has the scars to prove it.  He is the only candidate in this race who will not buckle under pressure from the establishment Republican elites in Washington.  In fact, he is committed to fighting the big government mentality in both parties.  Mooney understands that if we don’t change the failed leadership of the establishment GOP, all promises of conservative governance is just talk.”

Madison Action Fund Airs Anti-Simpson TV Ad in Idaho: ‘Nancy Pelosi Republican’

Wednesday, April 30th, 2014 and is filed under Blog, Elections, News, Press

Fort Worth, TXMadison Action Fund, the super PAC associated with the Madison Project, recently released a new TV ad against liberal Republican Mike Simpson (R-ID) called “Nancy Pelosi Republican.” The TV ad started airing districtwide on Wednesday, April 30th and will continue airing until Election Day, May 20th.

“Mike Simpson has always felt uncomfortable and out-of-place with his liberal voting record in such a conservative state like Idaho,” said Drew Ryun of the Madison Project.  “That is why he has attempted to reinvent himself as a conservative, even as his liberal allies, funded by big labor, pump millions of dollars into the campaign in order to save this liberal Republican.  It’s time to have an honest discussion about Simpson’s voting record so voters know what to expect if Simpson continues his life-long career in Washington and no longer fears reprisal from conservatives. ”

The Madison Project endorsed Rep. Mike Simpson’s opponent, Bryan Smith, in September. For more information on their endorsement visit: www.sacksimpson.com.

RELEASE: Thad Cochran’s Real Record on Life and Guns

Tuesday, April 1st, 2014 and is filed under Elections, News, Press

Fort Worth, TX – The Madison Project PAC released the following statement in response to Senator Thad Cochran’s (R-MS) misleading TV ad portraying himself as 100% pro-life and pro-second amendment rights:

“Like every liberal Republican ashamed of his voting record, Senator Cochran is campaigning as a born-again conservative, instead of defending his record,” said Daniel Horowitz of the Madison Project.  “He obfuscates the fact that he helped sabotage the effort to defund Obamacare.  With regards to life, he is actually one of the few Republicans who has voted for an anti-life agenda on numerous occasions.  And with regards to guns, Cochran is hoping that the lack of votes on Second Amendment issues in recent years will erase his past history of voting to ban guns.  The voters of Mississippi deserve honesty from Cochran who should be defending his true record instead of obfuscating the truth.”

Here are the facts:

Life:

  • Voted for Medicaid funding for abortions [Roll Call #132, May 21, 1981]
  • Voted to table the amendment to bar the use of federal District of Columbia funds to pay for abortions, except to save the life of the mother [Roll Call #291, November 7, 1985]
  • Voted for federally funded research on embryonic stem cells [Roll Call #206, July 18, 2006 Roll Call #127, April 11, 2007]
  • Voted against straightening laws to circumvent taking minors across state lines for abortions without parental notification [Roll Call #71, March 13, 2008]

Guns:

  • Voted for then-Senator Joe Biden’s massive gun control bill, which banned numerous firearms and created undue  burdens and waiting periods on purchasers [Roll Call #125, July 11. 1991]
  • Voted to impose background checks on private transfers and supersede numerous state laws with a sweeping federal mandate [RC #140, May 20, 1999]
    • Voted to prohibit the sale of all guns without Washington-approved safety devices [Roll Call #17, February 26, 2004]

Obamacare:

  • Cochran claims that he voted to repeal Obamacare over 100 times, but he has always opposed the only consequential means of actually disrupting the law, which is by objecting to any budget that contains funding  [RC#206, Sept. 27, 2013; RC# 219, Oct. 16, 2013]

RELEASE: Madison Project Responds to Mike Simpson’s Dishonest Ad

Thursday, March 13th, 2014 and is filed under Blog, Elections, Press

Fort Worth, TX – The Madison Project PAC released the following statement in response to Congressman Mike Simpson’s (R-ID) appallingly dishonest TV ad:

“Simpson acts as if tossing around the vacuous stereotype of ‘personal injury lawyer’ against his opponent affords him the license to obfuscate his voting record and misleads the voters in Idaho,” said Daniel Horowitz of the Madison Project.  “There aren’t enough shyster consultants in Washington who can produce honest ads to rehabilitate his liberal record.  He dishonestly uses ceremonial votes that he knew would never be signed into law to obscure the consequential liberal votes he cast that were actually signed into law.”

Here are the facts:

Wall Street Bailout:  Simpson has the unbridled temerity to suggest that he voted to repeal the Wall Street Bailout, while refusing to mention the fact that he voted for it in the first place [RC #681, Oct 3, 2008].  Although Simpson declines to cite the roll call vote to ‘repeal’ TARP, there was never a full repeal bill and it was never signed into law.

Balanced Budget: Simpson touts his vote for a Balanced Budget Amendment.  That is lovely, but it is meaningless for him to support something that never had a chance to become law while supporting endless debt ceiling increases, which ensured that our budget would never balance.  The examples of votes he’s taken to bust the budget are too numerous to list.  A partial list can be viewed at SackSimpson.com.

Cut Spending: Simpson claims to have cut trillions in spending, but as a chief appropriator he has never met a spending bill he didn’t like.  He even voted against the $100 billion in spending cuts promised by the GOP Pledge to America in 2011 [RC #103, Feb 18, 2011].  Mike Simpson was one of just three Republicans to vote against cutting off taxpayer funding for the radical liberal and corrupt ACORN [RC #397, June 2, 2011].

Obamacare: Simpson has the nerve to suggest that he voted to defund Obamacare, but he has always opposed the only consequential means of actually defunding the law, which is by objecting to any budget that contains funding.  [RC# 550, Oct. 16, 2013]

RELEASE: Madison Project Releases “Mitch McConnell Debt Man” Ad

Tuesday, February 25th, 2014 and is filed under Elections, Press

Fort Worth, TX – The Madison Project PAC, the first national conservative PAC to endorse Matt Bevin in the Kentucky Senate race, released a new web ad highlighting Senator Mitch McConnell’s (R-KY) endless debt ceiling increases culminating with the blank check he gave President Obama earlier this month.

To watch Madison Project PAC’s new web ad click here.

“As minority leader, Senator Mitch McConnell should have served as a bulwark against President Obama’s demands for a blank check, especially after racking up $6.3 trillion in debt in just five years,” said Drew Ryun of the Madison Project.  “Yet, not only did McConnell deliver the President the votes for that blank check, he has completely adopted Obama’s false premise about default.  With interest payments on the debt hovering around $235 billion per year and revenue exceeding $3 trillion, there is no chance of default, and McConnell knows it.  Worse, he is now claiming that acceding to Obama’s demand is tantamount to ‘saving the country!’

“At some point, McConnell owes the people of Kentucky an answer as to when the cycle of endless debt and failed promises will end.  McConnell has never shown leadership in reducing the size of government and that is why he cannot be allowed to lead any GOP Majority if conservatives ever hope to change Washington, D.C.”

RELEASE: Mitch McConnell Votes to Give Obama a Blank Check

Wednesday, February 12th, 2014 and is filed under Debt, Press

Fort Worth, TX – The Madison Project PAC released the following statement in response to Senator Mitch McConnell’s vote for cloture to suspend the debt ceiling and grant President Obama a blank check for another year:

“Ever since Matt Bevin announced his intention to run for the U.S. Senate, Mitch McConnell has veered to the right, making sure to vote with conservatives on major issues,” said Drew Ryun of the Madison Project.  “However, he never whips against bad legislation because he has been in ‘hope yes, vote no’ mode, encouraging other members to vote for more spending while he evinced a conservative image to his voters back home.  Today, McConnell was finally forced out of the shadows because he couldn’t find enough Republicans willing to vote for such an irresponsible bill – granting Obama another blank check after he already amassed over $6.6 trillion in debt.

“Today’s vote is a perfect illustration of what Kentuckians have to look forward to if McConnell were to win reelection and no longer fear reprisal from the voters back home.  Kentucky voters need to ask themselves the following question: is this the man we want running the Senate if Republicans work hard enough to elect a GOP majority?”

RELEASE: GOP Leaders Double Down on Failed Amnesty Proposals

Thursday, January 30th, 2014 and is filed under Immigration, Press

“We will not support any candidate who favors any sort of legalization or amnesty…”

The Madison Project PAC released the following statement today regarding the GOP leadership’s plan to pass President Obama’s wrongheaded immigration proposals:

“Over the years, the Republican Party has continually been ridiculed for making politically tone-deaf decisions,” said Daniel Horowitz, Policy Director of the Madison Project.  “This latest effort to distract from Obama’s failures and Obamacare to focus on granting benefits to illegal immigrants ahead of a promising election cycle shows they are now, more than ever, out of touch with the American public. Seldom do we have a wealth of history to draw upon in order to learn from past policy mistakes like we do with the endless cycle of amnesty and open borders.  Yet, the House GOP leadership’s proposal is another ‘amnesty now, enforcement later’ plan that will engender a new wave of illegal immigration and grant perennial de facto amnesty to anyone who enters our country illegally.

“Although they crafted their document with careful wording, all of their specific proposals would grant immediate legalization, similar to the framework of the Senate ‘Gang of 8’ bill.  The idea that this legal status would be revoked if border triggers are not met or that the legal status would not grow into full-blown citizenship is absurd and disingenuous.   Moreover, passing the DREAM Act without first fixing our unqualified birthright citizenship and welfare system will chart a pathway to welfare benefits for millions of low-skilled illegal immigrants within just a few years.  It’s time Republicans place the needs of the American worker and taxpayer ahead of the desires of wealthy special interests and illegal immigrants.”

“Coupled with recent capitulations on the budget, Farm Bill, and debt ceiling, GOP leadership is showing they will never provide a bold contrast from the Democrats,” said Drew Ryun, Political Director of the Madison Project.  “The GOP establishment will learn you can fool some of the voters some of the time, but not all of the voters all the time.  Moving forward into this next election cycle, we view this issue as one that cuts across all three legs of the conservative stool – fiscal, social, and national security.  We will not support any candidate who favors any sort of legalization or amnesty before the proper security and enforcement measures are implemented and the rule of law is restored.”

Release: Madison Project PAC Endorses Alex Mooney for Congress in West Virginia’s Second District

Monday, January 27th, 2014 and is filed under Press

Mooney will be a principled conservative voice for West Virginians.

The Madison Project PAC, the first conservative PAC to endorse Ted Cruz (R-TX), announced today that it is endorsing Alex Mooney for Congress in West Virginia’s Second District:

“When we research candidates that have held prior elected office, we hold their voting record to the same level of scrutiny as we do the words they use in their campaign speeches and political rhetoric –– few pass that scrutiny as well as Alex Mooney,” said Drew Ryun of the Madison Project. “It is rare for veterans of public service to have a rock-solid record of conservative votes as well as challenging the status quo leadership in both parties that Mooney does. His record is a testament to his steadfast leadership ability. It is with the utmost confidence that we endorse Mooney for Congress, as we are certain that he will be a principled conservative voice for West Virginians.”

Daniel Horowitz of the Madison Project said: “We are proud to endorse Alex Mooney for Congress because we know that on top of saying the right things to rally grassroots conservatives, and advocating for our principles, Mooney has a history of actually backing up his words with actions and resolve. He was a Tea Party conservative long before the movement took hold with a history of beating establishment candidates. West Virginia is on the precipice of transforming into a solid Republican state, and Mooney gives it the opportunity to become a truly conservative state with a representative in Washington that will fight for issues important to reaffirming our Republic.”

For Immediate Release: Madison Project Unveils Anti-McConnell Billboards in Kentucky

Sunday, January 19th, 2014 and is filed under News, Press

Fort Worth, TX – The Madison Project PAC, the first conservative PAC to endorse Ted Cruz (R-TX), unveiled today three unique billboards that expose Senator Mitch McConnell’s (R-KY) destructive record in Kentucky.  The billboards address the issues of bailouts, debt and Obamacare with duplicates of each billboard totaling six in all. They are located in Clay County, Laurel County, Madison County, Pulaski County and Whitley County.

“These billboards are part of the Madison Project’s broader effort to move past the platitudes and engage in a long-form discussion with Kentucky voters about McConnell’s true record,” said Drew Ryun of the Madison Project.  “McConnell likes to tout his supposed clout and power, but after 29 years in Washington hard-working Americans are left with the same culture of higher taxes, more debt, special interest kickbacks and bailouts.  McConnell’s work, with Vice President Joe Biden in 2011 and Senator Harry Reid (D-NV) last year, to raise the debt ceiling has charted a course towards the permanent growth of government.   The harmful effects of the ‘McConnell debt ceiling plan’ speak louder than his carefully written speeches.

“Worst of all, McConnell has completely sabotaged the only effort to halt Obamacare funding before the law becomes impossible to repeal.  He made it clear to Democrats that not only will he continue to fund Obamacare through budget bills and debt ceiling increases, but he will also punish conservatives who attempt to do so. McConnell talks a good game about repealing Obamacare, suggesting that all we have to do to get rid of the law is to make him Majority Leader.  However, his dogmatic commitment   never to  fight the President on a budget bill to force outcome confrontation over Obamacare means that the earliest opportunity to repeal the law is 2017.  By then, it will be too late.  As long as McConnell is in power, Obamacare implementation will never be disrupted and premiums will continue to skyrocket.

“It is clear that another six years of Mitch McConnell as leader will perpetuate the status quo supported by his special interest money-bundlers.  The only way to make the party more effective is by electing conservative U.S. Senate candidate Matt Bevin.  Bevin strongly opposes big government and the special interests of Washington, and unlike McConnell, he will actually fight for the best interests of the people of Kentucky.”

The Madison Project endorsed U.S. Senate candidate Matt Bevin in July of 2013. The full endorsement can be read here.
