Napolitano to Decide Whether Border is Secured

Much of the confrontation over immigration last week centered around the so-called triggers of border enforcement that would then allow those who are here illegally to obtain a path to citizenship.  Marco Rubio swears up and down that his plan would demand full border security before any amnesty is triggered; however, The Hill is reporting that such a determination would be left in the hands of Janet Napolitano!

Under a bipartisan Senate framework, Democrats say, Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano would have final say over whether the border is secure enough to put 11 million illegal immigrants on a path to citizenship.

If Napolitano does not provide the green light for putting illegal immigrants on a pathway to citizenship, the responsibility for judging whether the metrics for border security have been met will be given to her successor.

Talk about the fox guarding the henhouse!  This is the woman who, as head of HHS, has suspended much of the immigration enforcement laws during Obama’s first term.  This is the person Marco Rubio wants us to trust for border enforcement in return for amnesty?

  1. Ellen Elmore Says:

Marco Rubio trusting anyone in Obama’s administration is a big mistake. If indeed the immigration bill passes as written and border security is enforced by Napolitano, Rubio’s career as a champion of conservative causes, is over. Texas Senator Ted Cruz will become our new champion. Rubio is making a huge mistake supporting the proposed immigration bill.
