Profiles in Courage: Mitch McConnell Has No Opinion on Obama Amnesty

This is absolutely stupefying.  Mitch McConnell, like most Republicans, has been voting against the DREAM Act for years.  This is one issue in which most Republicans adhered to bedrock principles.  Yet, in the face of Obama’s illegal amnesty, Mitch McConnell has nothing to say.  He issued no press release until today.  And what was his response?  He’s waiting for Romney to lead the way!

Here’s what he told reporters:

“I think we’re going to wait and see what governor Romney has to say, and we’re going to be discussing his views on this,” McConnell told reporters at the Capitol Tuesday. “I think many of us may have similar views. Others may not.”

McConnell said he was deferring to Romney because the former Massachusetts governor is “the leader of our party from now until November — and, we hope, beyond.”

So he’s been voting on this issue long before Romney made it to the political scene, yet he has nothing to say?  He won’t even criticize the process?  What changed over the past year?  This is appalling.

Does Mitch McConnell plan to wait for Mitt Romney on everything?  If Congress plans to make Romney the leader without any independent advise, we have a serious problem.  Illegal immigration is just the beginning.
