Due to complications with the redistricting process, it was just announced today that the Texas primary will be held May 29 with the runoff election (for those who fail to win with a majority of the vote) set for July 31. This will give conservative Ted Cruz more time to overtake David Dewhurst in the race for Senate. There had been a concern that his surge would be cut short by an early March primary. Our best hope was that Cruz would keep Dewhurst from obtaining a majority. Now, Cruz has a chance to blow this wide open. Who knows? Maybe he’ll win enough to avoid the runoff.
