For far too long, those of us who lived in the 10 states that deny residents the right to carry a concealed weapon sat on our laurels and bemoaned the vices of liberal states. One man in Maryland decided to challenge the state’s restriction on carrying a gun (except under special circumstances). Earlier today, U.S. District Judge Benson Everett Legg ruled in his favor and concluded that Maryland’s requirement that residents show a “good and substantial reason” to carry a handgun infringes their Second Amendment right to bear arms. If we can overturn Maryland’s law, we might be on our way to establishing the right to carry in all 50 states.
