The Republican Study Committee and $100B

It was big news this fall with House Republicans said they were going to cut $100B from non-defense discretionary spending. Now Republican leadership is backing off that number with all sorts of excuses but wouldn’t you know, the new crop of Republican freshman (most of whom belong to the conservative Republican Study Committee) are saying, “No, we are fulfilling that promise.” Just like the Contract with America, Republican leadership is hoping no one notices that what they said on the campaign trail will not be moved on now that they are in power (and trust me, this is a real problem for Republicans).

Unfortunately for them, the freshmen and the RSC are not going to let them off the hook.
